National Animal Law Day – 22nd July

Today we’re recognising National Animal Law Day, a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come — and why animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Horsepool Farm.

We highlight two vital laws to everyone who visits us:

Martin’s Act 1822 – the first law to protect animals from cruelty in the UK

Animal Welfare Act 2006 – which outlines the Five Animal Freedoms every animal deserves:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from discomfort

3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease

4. Freedom to express normal behaviour

5. Freedom from fear and distress

These freedoms guide all our care — whether it’s a goat, a goose, or a guinea pig — because education and compassion go hand in hand.

Animal welfare isn’t just part of our farm — it’s the foundation of everything we do.
